Baylor space medicine faculty honored

Dr. Jonathan ClarkDr. Jeffrey SuttonTwo Baylor faculty members in the Center for Space Medicine were recently honored at the annual Aerospace Medical Association meeting. Dr. Jonathan Clark, associate professor, received the Joe Kerwin Award, named for the first U.S. physician to fly in space. Also, the Space Medicine Association announced its highest scientific accolade as the Jeffrey P. Sutton Scientific Achievement Award in honor of Dr. Sutton, director of the Center for Space Medicine.

Market Days at BCM is June 24

Enjoy local foods and learn about local environmental organizations at Market Days at BCM on Wednesday, June 24, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Rayzor Lounge on the main Baylor campus. Vendors include Brenham Kitchens, Chocolate and Sweetness, Gold Leaf Coffee, Kristi’s Kitchen, L Chocolate and Revolucion Juice. Information on volunteer opportunities with the Hermann Park Conservancy will be available. Market Days is hosted by BCM’s Resource Stewardship & Sustainability Program. Mark calendars for global hack-a-thon in September

Baylor innovators, mark your calendars for the Baylor Global Hack-a-thon scheduled for Sept. 19-20 at the TMCX accelerator space at the McGovern Campus. Sponsored by the Baylor Global Innovation Center, the hack-a-thon will bring students, healthcare professionals, engineers, business leaders and others together to find solutions to global healthcare issues. Workplace survey

Baylor College of Medicine is participating in the Houston Chronicle’s Top Workplaces program. A survey to gather opinions on Baylor as a workplace was sent to faculty and staff by email. The survey will take about 5 minutes to complete and is completely confidential. It must be completed by June 30.

Men's Health Awareness Month

June is Men’s Health Awareness Month. The BCM BeWell program is hosting a Wear Blue Day June 30 to raise awareness of the importance of men’s health. Tables will be hosted by BCM BeWell staff, who will provide information on the importance men getting regular checkups, testicular and prostate health and other issues. The tables will be located at the Jamail Specialty Care Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and at the Jaworski Auditorium in the Cullen Building from 2 to 4 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to wear blue and to stop by the BCM BeWell tables for important men’s health information. Polls open for faculty and staff of the year awards

The Faculty and Staff of the Year recognition program identifies current faculty and staff whose exceptional contributions to BCM either directly or indirectly advance the College’s mission and values. The nominees all were named as Faculty and Staff of the Quarter during the year. Now it is time to make recommendations from this list on colleagues you think deserve the special recognition for the year. Vote online through June 19.
