Kunik honored for role as mentor

Dr. Mark KunikDr. Mark Kunik, professor of psychiatry research, is the first-ever recipient of the Daniel Deykin Award for Outstanding Mentor from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Health Services Research and Development. This award will be presented each year to a VA/HSR&D researcher who exhibits outstanding dedication and skill in mentoring the next generation of researchers. Kunik has mentored and affected the careers of more than 75 mentees.

Reproductive health research call for abstracts

The Center for Reproductive Medicine will host an abstract and poster competition during the 2015 Reproductive Health Research Day, which is scheduled for Feb. 25. It will offer an opportunity for researchers to share their work with colleagues from BCM and the TMC as well as with visiting senior researchers and keynote speakers. Four winners will be selected from the abstract submissions, and they will be invited to give a talk during the meeting as well as receive prizes. Abstract submittal deadline is Friday, Jan. 30, at 5 p.m. Submit abstracts to jyotip@bcm.edu with the e-mail subject line: 2015 RHRD Abstract Submission. Student research day call for abstracts

BCM will hold the 15th Annual James K. Alexander Research Symposium in March, and submissions currently are being accepted. This research day will allow medical students who are not in the M.D./Ph.D. Program to showcase their research activities. Abstracts may consist of work that is completed, in progress or has been published, and pre-Ph.D. abstracts will be accepted. Cash awards and certificates will be presented to winners. Learn more about the event and how to submit an abstract. Deadline for submission of abstracts is Monday, Feb. 2.

Retirement counseling available

The 2015 one-on-one consultation calendars for Fidelity Investments and TIAA-CREF are now available. Offered as part of Baylor College of Medicine’s retirement plans, these free consultations provide an opportunity for employees to have a face-to-face discussion with a retirement representative to review investment options, retirement income planning, financial questions and more.
