Congenital Anomalies

Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension of the Newborn (PPHN)	PPHN	Alpha	1	Y, N	"Y" = infant with documented right-to-left shunt in patent ductus arteriosus or foramen ovale. Documented by echocardiography or measurement of pre- and post-ductal arterial blood gas tensions. Infant may have PPHN plus other lung diseases, such as diaphragmatic hernia, pulmonary hypoplasia, meconium aspiration pneumonia, or HMD.
Congenital Pneumonia	CONGPNEU	Alpha	1	Y, N	"Y" = infant with abnormal chest x-ray that persists for >24 hours and a positive blood culture.
Meconium Aspiration Pneumonia	MAS	Alpha	1	Y, N	"Y" = infant with meconium suctioned from trachea and evidence of respiratory distress. Should have a persistently abnormal chest x-ray for >24 hours following delivery.
Pulmonary Hypoplasia	PULHYPOP	Alpha	1	Y, N	"Y" = infants with idiopathic pulmonary hypoplasia from oligohydramnios, Potter’s Syndrome, and other congenital malformations such as diaphragmatic hernia.
