Coping with COVID

Is your child experiencing anxiety, depression or stress due to or worsened by the pandemic? You may be interested in participating in a program that provides free, parent-led cognitive behavioral therapy for children ages 5 to 13. This initiative, developed by Baylor mental health experts, includes 60-minute coaching sessions for parents via Zoom or phone over a six-week period. Parents also will complete three assessments to track progress. For more information on the Coping with COVID program, please call 832-206-4034 or email Project Reach.

Alam earns grant for corneal disease research

Dr. Jahan AlamDr. Jahan Alam, postdoctoral associate in ophthalmology, has received a research grant from the Knights Templar Eye Foundation for his research, "Immunopathogenesis of Blinding Corneal Disease in Vitamin A Deficiency."

Yu completes leadership program

Dr. Melissa YuDr. Melissa Yu, associate professor of neurology, recently completed the Transforming Leaders Program, a yearlong leadership fellowship with the American Academy of Neurology. It focuses on helping innovative leaders transform their practices and the field of neurology through retreats, coaching, research and group projects. Yu also is associate director of clinical operations for the Alzheimer's Disease and Memory Disorders Center at Baylor.

July 28: Talks on discrimination and cultural identity

Register by 5 p.m. July 27 for two events on July 28 with Dr. Francis Lu, professor emeritus at UC Davis, on discrimination and cultural identity in healthcare and the sciences, offered by Baylor's Office of Institutional Diversity, Inclusion and Equity. Quality improvement opportunities

BCM BeWell news: CAPE Challenge

The Communication and Professionalism Experience (CAPE) challenge will provide an opportunity through a series of emails for participants to consider how to handle challenging situations with composure and professionalism, especially important during times of high stress such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
