Media and social media policies

Baylor College of Medicine faculty have served as important sources of information during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a reminder, faculty members, employees and trainees of the College who receive a media inquiry or interview request must contact the Office of Communications and Community Outreach at 713-798-4710 or pa@bcm.edu. Communications staff will vet all requests and coordinate interviews. In addition, please review these guidelines before sharing your COVID-19 experiences on social media.

April 15 COVID-19 Zoom events

  • Emergency Medicine Grand Rounds COVID-19 webinar, 11 a.m. to noon, with Dr. Robert Goodnough, assistant professor of emergency medicine, discussing "Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine: therapeutic and toxic potential during the COVID-19 pandemic."   • DocTalk with Dr. Eric Storch, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, noon, discussing ways to stay connected during physical distancing and isolation. Register to receive the Zoom information and send questions. BCM BeWell Vitality points available. Questions? Email wellness@bcm.edu.

Homemade masks

Employees in patient-facing roles will be provided PPE by BCM or its affiliates. Others may wear homemade masks. View these helpful instructions from the U.S. Surgeon General and from the Centers for Disease Control, and from Masks4All for an easy bandana mask how-to.

HR COVID-19 updates: Non-gym workouts

During the coronavirus pandemic, BCM BeWell will provide you with the tools and resources necessary to maintain your physical health. For the next three months, the gym workout form on the Vitality Today app and the Power of Vitality website can be used for non-gym workouts. See instructions online.

'Baylor COVID-19 Diaries'

View this photo gallery to see the Baylor community in action during the pandemic, including students and faculty who assisted with ProjectCure's PPE donation drive. For next week's Baylor COVID-19 Diaries, send in a photo and description of your COVID-19 hero – this could be a doctor, nurse, researcher or another colleague who you've seen exemplify Baylor's values during the pandemic. Or, how about sharing five positive things you've learned during the pandemic. Email to Dana Benson.


Awards and Recognitions

Chinn honored for publication

Dr. Ivan ChinnDr. Ivan Chinn, assistant professor of pediatrics – allergy and immunology, is one of the recipients of the inaugural Mario Ricciardi Award for the Best Scientific Article published from 2018 to 2019 from the Italian Association of Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis. He was honored for his publication in the journal Blood on "Genetic and mechanistic diversity in pediatric hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis."

Wu earns research award

Dr. Tao WuDr. Tao Wu, assistant professor of molecular and human genetics, has been awarded the Rivkin Center's 2020 Scientific Scholar Award. He will receive $60,000 for his research titled "Targeting Epigenetic Landscape Reprogramming to Combat Drug-resistance in Ovarian Cancer."

Zoom yoga

Join Zoom yoga sessions offered by the Department of Medicine. The classes are led by Dr. Jessica Davila, associate professor of health services research, on Tuesdays at 7:15 a.m. and Fridays at 11:30 a.m. Join from your device, meeting ID 285 892 6181.


College News

TMC Library news

The TMC Library is tentatively scheduled to reopen April 20. In the meantime, virtual resources are available, including a virtual egg hunt today at 5 p.m. Participate by searching the TMC library website and social media for information. All participants who answer questions posed through the egg hunt correctly will be entered into a drawing for one of five $25 Amazon gift cards.
