Bijan Najafi, Ph.D., professor of surgery, co-director of Center to Stream Healthcare in Place (C2SHIP) and director of the Interdisciplinary Consortium on Advanced Motion Performance; Jayer Chung, M.D., associate professor and associate chief for the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy; Jeffrey Ross, D.P.M., M.D., associate professor and chief of podiatry in the Division of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy; and their team, in partnership with BioSensics LLC, have received an NIH grant for their groundbreaking project, Tele-FootX.

Tele-FootX is a telemedicine platform designed to provide personalized, home-based exercise programs for people with diabetic foot ulcers (DFU), addressing a critical gap in the existing standard of care. Deconditioning and poor lower extremity perfusion are critical issues for DFU patients, especially older individuals. Despite the proven benefits of non-weight bearing exercises in wound management, their adoption has been limited due to a lack of accessible solutions tailored to DFU patients. Tele-FootX aims to address this issue by offering an interactive, virtually supervised foot and ankle exercise program to prevent deconditioning and enhance wound healing.
