About the Lab
The research interest for the Lee Laboratory of Structural Biology is the study of mitochondrial proteostasis maintenance.
The broad and long-term research objective of the laboratory is to provide a molecular understanding of the protein quality control machinery that maintains mitochondrial proteostasis.
On-going research focuses on determining the structure, function, and mechanism of molecular chaperones, membrane-associated proteases, kinases and enzymes using a multi-pronged approach combining X-ray crystallography and cryoEM/cryoET with biochemical, biophysical, and functional studies.
The goal of our research is to provide a detailed mechanistic understanding of mitochondrial quality control proteins in order to exploit this information for rationale structure-based drug development.
