Surgery's 2021 Women of Excellence Awardees
Dr. Stacey Ann Carter, assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology and director of the sub-internship program in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, Dr. Lorraine Cornwell, assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Dr. Kristy Rialon, assistant professor of surgery in the Division of Pediatric Surgery, and Dr. Barbara W. Trautner, professor and director of clinical and health research in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine, have received the 2021 Women of Excellence Award. The Women of Excellence Award was established in 2018 to celebrate individuals who exemplify Baylor values and demonstrate exceptional dedication to issues that affect women at Baylor College of Medicine or in the larger community.
Drs. Carter, Cornwell, Rialon, and Trautner have been recognized for their demonstrated leadership in addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion above and beyond the general responsibility as staff, faculty, trainee, and students. They have documented extraordinary contributions and accomplishments, within one or more of Baylor’s mission areas. The recipients will be honored at the 2021 Women of Excellence Award virtual event featuring a keynote address titled “Dr. Margaret ‘Peg’ Nosek: A Life of Passion and Purpose,” to honor the contributions the late Dr. Nosek, professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Baylor, made to the study of women and disabilities through research, advocacy and collaboration.
