The Baylor Licensing Group maximizes the impact of research at Baylor College of Medicine through commercial relationships that lead to agreements to support the development of new products and services that benefit patients and the public.

What We Do

Our Core Activity

Negotiate and execute agreements with commercial partners:

  • Exclusive and non-exclusive license agreements
  • Sponsored Research Agreements (SRAs)
  • Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs)
  • Confidential Disclosure Agreements (CDAs)

Other Activities

  • Evaluate technologies for commercial viability
  • Evaluate patentability; arrange for patent prosecution if needed - typically around novel therapeutics and devices
  • Market technologies to industry
  • Educate the Baylor research community about technology commercialization
  • Coordinate legal review and approval of agreements
  • Distribute license income and monitor licensee compliance
  • Communicate our results to the Baylor community and beyond

Changes on the BLG Scene in FY ’14

BLG now has responsibility for Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs), Sponsored Research Agreements (SRAs), and Data Transfer/Use Agreements (DTAs/DUAs). BLG has implemented an upgraded proactive technology marketing program to promote technology commercialization.

FY ’14 by the Numbers

  • 59 new licensing transactions executed
  • 118 new invention disclosures submitted
  • 52 new patent applications filed
  • $5.5 million in gross license income
  • Almost 700 active licenses are being managed by BLG
  • More than 800 MTAs, SRAs and other agreements executed
