KIT Exon 8 & 17 Mutation Analysis
Test Information: Identification of mutations in exons 8 and 17 of the KIT gene.
Test Details
Test Code: 9105
Test Includes: Sequence Analysis of exons 8 & 17 of the KIT gene.

Special Notes: KIT is expressed in hematopoietic precursors and plays a crucial role in normal hematopoiesis. Activating mutations in the human KIT protein have been observed in a variety of human tumors including acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Mutations in the exon 8 and exon 17 of KIT have shown to have independent negative impact on de novo or relapsed AML. Identification of mutations in KIT gene is clinically relevant for disease prognosis and potential targeted treatment.

Technical Limitations:

This test is designed to detect mutations in exon 8 and 17 of the KIT gene only. The limit of the test is approximately 20 mutated cells in 100 total cells (20%).

Results of this test must always be interpreted in the context of relevant clinical and pathological data, and should not be used alone for a diagnosis of malignancy. This test is not intended to detect minimal residual disease.
