AKT1 Mutation Analysis - Tumor
Test Information: Indication for Study:

Identification of mutations in codon 17 of the AKT gene.
Test Details
Test Code: 9025
Special Notes: This test can also be performed on Fresh Frozen Tissue (#9026).

AKT1 (v-akt murine thymoma viral oncogene homologue 1) kinase is a central member of possibly the most frequently activated proliferation and survival pathway in cancer. A somatic mutation in AKT1 (E17K) has been detected in breast, colorectal, lung and ovarian cancers. The E17K change results in constitutive AKT1 activation and decreases the sensitivity to an allosteric kinase inhibitor. The purpose of this test is to determine the mutation status of AKT1 in tumors which can be used to predict patient response to certain certain therapeutic regimens.

Technical Limitations:

The sensitivity of detection is approximately 5-10 mutated cells per 100 total cells in the sample (5-10%).

Results of this test must always be interpreted in the context of relevant clinical and pathological data, and should not be used alone for a diagnosis of malignancy.
