About the Lab

Just like a car, the retina needs fuel to operate. In fact, the retina requires a tremendous amount of fuel that is supplied by blood vessels that line the very back of the retina. These blood vessels shrink as we age, and this can cause vision loss. Keeping these vessels alive is the focus of my lab.

I use stem cells, gene therapy, transgenic mice, and cell transplantation techniques to study what kills the vessels and to develop novel therapies to help keep them alive and fully functional.
