The Center for Research on Women with Disabilities (CROWD) at Baylor College of Medicine welcomes you to our web site and information resource.

Our mission is to promote, develop, and disseminate information to improve the health and expand the life choices of women with disabilities. We invite you to browse the results of research we have conducted on the following topics:

Resources for researchers and students interested in these areas of study are also available. In June 2003 we convened a symposium of researchers, clinicians, and advocates entitled, "Improving the Health and Wellness of Women with Disabilities". An Executive Summary of the symposium is available with a list of participants and recommendations proposed. Continuing medical education materials are available for clinicians, particularly related to reproductive health care

CROWD is also dedicated to helping women with disabilities organize into local support and advocacy groups (face-to-face and online) and to solidify our national presence as a force to be reckoned with. Web sites of existing organizations of women with disabilities can be found on our Links page.

Downloadable materials in English and Spanish from our health promotion campaign for women with disabilities are also available.

CROWD Goes Virtual!

Researchers at CROWD are currently engaged in developing and testing health promotion interventions using the Internet. Topics we have addressed so far include health promotion for women aging with physical disabilities, self-esteem enhancement, and weight management. The self-esteem enhancement and weight management interventions make use of an online virtual world called Second Life (www.Secondlife.com). Materials available from the Self-Esteem in Second Life pilot study include:
