Primary Care Issues for Women with Severe Physical Disabilities

Nosek MA. Primary care issues for women with severe physical disabilities. Journal of Women's Health 1992;1(4):245-8.

ABSTRACT

Active, vibrant, healthy, involved women with severe physical disabilities face some substantial barriers to receiving the primary health care they need to maintain their lifestyle. Many of these barriers are ones you will all recognize; others are so subtle that only those who are the most attuned to disability issues will be aware of their impact. These issues fall into five basic categories: access, information, attitudes, finances, and personal assistance. My purpose is not only to cite the problems but also to offer some solutions and five keys to improving your medical practice for women with disabilities.
