Membership in the Diabetes Research Center is determined by the DRC Executive Committee, which reviews applications from the BCM faculty. The faculty members who participate are highly competitive and well-funded investigators. In fiscal year 2005, their NIH funding for DRC-related research totaled $44 million direct cost and their NIH funding for non-DRC-related research was $10 million.

  • Research area must be relevant to diabetes (diagnosis, normal and abnormal physiology, prevention or treatment)
  • Physical and/or intellectual participation in DRC activities, including research, review and oversight, enrichment and training programs
  • Using or providing shared core resources
  • Funded pilot/feasibility projects

Annual Review

The Executive Committee performs yearly reviews of existing membership to ensure continued involvement of DRC members in the areas defined by the membership criteria. New members will be reviewed yearly and ad hoc to endure the DRC has an involved and active membership.
