RFA-Pilot/Feasibility Projects on Diabetes/Endocrinology

Call for applications for Pilot/Feasibility Projects on Diabetes/Endocrinology

To stimulate diabetes research at Baylor College of Medicine, the Diabetes Research Center supports a Pilot and Feasibility (P & F) Program designed to foster development of new investigators and to provide seed-support for innovative high-risk projects. We invite applications for P & F projects from all Baylor faculty.

P & F projects should encompass research on type 1 or type 2 diabetes, endocrinology or metabolism, and can be basic, clinical or translational in nature. The budget for each P & F project is up to $50,000 a year. Continued funding beyond the first year depends on progress and availability of funds. The program gives preference to applications from new investigators; it will also consider applications from established investigators outside the diabetes field who wish to apply their knowledge and skills to a diabetes-related project. We encourage new as well as established investigators to submit high-risk high-impact projects. Projects that are likely to eventually lead to NIH or foundation funding will be given priority. Applicants must be full-time faculty members at Baylor College of Medicine.

The application should consist of a one-page summary which should include a Title, Specific Aims, Background, and Experimental Design and Methods; a bibliography of up to ten references can be included in a second page. A standard NIH biosketch and complete other support information should also be submitted with the summary. A committee will select the top 6 to 8 applications, who will be asked to submit 6-page applications for final selection. The finalists selected at the second round will receive support for one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year, pending a satisfactory progress report and the availability of funds.

The deadline for the receipt of the one-page application is Monday, April 21, 2014 at 5 p.m. Please send an electronic version (pdf) of your application to Lawrence Chan at lchan@bcm.edu.
