About Us

The Cardiovascular Research Institute is built on a legacy of cardiovascular research. Read about Dr. Michael E. DeBakey, Baylor College of Medicine cardiovascular surgeon and researcher, and see a timeline of accomplishments.

Today, physicians and scientists of the CVRI at Baylor College of Medicine continue to provide state-of-the-art medical care and perform groundbreaking research in cardiovascular research and surgery.

The CVRI serves as an avenue for increased collaborative research efforts, development of cutting edge cardiovascular clinical technologies and enhanced CV educational programs.

The CVRI was established in 2012 as a key strategic initiative to enhance collaborative opportunities around these three areas:

The CVRI develops training tracks for students, residents, fellows and junior faculty. Research-intense residencies, fellowships and combined programs have been expanded to train future leaders in clinical, basic and translational cardiovascular medicine and research.

Administrative and research support is provided to promote collaborative and interdisciplinary research. Clinical research is facilitated by the establishment of tissue banks and by research coordinators at BCM-affiliated hospitals. The CVRI administers an annual pilot grant program to encourage multi-PI and PPG submissions.

Clinical Medicine and Trials

The CVRI is concentrating on expansion while leveraging its current clinical priorities. Clinical recruitments are coordinated with research disease themes of excellence as well as translational research.
