Core Facilities - International Research
The CFAR International Research Core assists with collaborative research projects in a number of settings internationally, including Eastern Europe (Romania) and Africa (Botswana, Uganda, Swaziland, Lesotho, and Malawi). Two additional sites are under construction in Mybea and Mwanza, Tanzania.
The Core helps to identify study sites and collaborating investigators. It also provides logistical and laboratory support for studies of HIV infections and related conditions.
The Core supports laboratory research training at the Stefan S. Nicolau Institute of Virology in Bucharest. The institute serves as the central virus reference laboratory for all of Romania, and is equipped for HIV ELISA and Western blot, HIV culture, HIV DNA and RNA PCR, HIV p24 antigen determination, and lymphocyte monoclonal phenotyping.
New opportunities for research and clinical training in international settings are available through the Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative (BIPAI). International elective rotations for medical students and residents also are available through BIPAI.
A table of potential study populations is provided.
