8a-1. Atelectasis.

A. Post-operative atelectasis is very common following surgical correction of congenital heart disease. The right upper lobe is most commonly affected, and is possibly due to aspiration of secretions into this area of the lung. More sever forms of atelectasis may develop due to low position of the endotrachial tube occluding one of the main stem bronchi.
