Professional Statement

Phillip W. Bowden, M.S.N., ACNP-BC, joined the Department of Surgery in October 2014. Phillip is a member of the General Thoracic Surgery team and a lead nurse practitioner building the mid-level team within the Department. His responsibilities include participating in the recruiting process, mentoring mid-level professionals, establishing a more complete orientation, and identifying educational opportunities for mid-level personnel.

Phillip received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he began his career in neuro trauma. After graduate school, he worked in many ICU and surgical settings, including Heart and Lung Transplant at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

In 2006, he was recruited by Houston Methodist Hospital where he has continued his work in critical care and surgery including cardiothoracic and general surgery. He is a member of the American College of Nurse Practitioner, Society of Critical Care Medicine and Texas Nurse Practitioners.
