Professional Statement

Dr. Leaming-Van Zandt serves as the Director of Patient/Family-Centered Care and Public Relations for the section of pediatric emergency medicine. In this capacity, she leads a variety of multi-disciplinary committees and quality improvement projects designed to champion and promote a service quality environment and culture and improve the emergency center experience for all patients and their families. She, also, educates physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff on the importance of customer service-related principles and interpersonal communication skills. Currently, Dr. Leaming-Van Zandt is a co-author on a funded project validating a communication assessment tool that provides patients and their families the opportunity to evaluate the interpersonal communication skills of medical trainees and faculty and is co-authoring a chapter entitled "Communicating with the Difficult Patient and/or Family" in Communicating with Pediatric Patients and their Families: The Texas Children's Hospital guide for physicians, nurses and other health care professionals.
