Professional Statement

Failure of well-orchestrated fetal-maternal interactions may lead to pregnancy complications. Uncovering the nature of these interactions may provide vital insight into our understanding of these pregnancy complications. My hope is to use this information in the identification of women at increased risk for pregnancy complications in the first or second trimester of pregnancy. This could provide the clinician with the opportunity to offer prophylactic interventions or more frequent fetal and/or maternal surveillance.
