Professional Statement

Dolores J. Lamb, PhD, HCLD, is the Lester and Sue Smith Chair in Basic Urologic Research, Vice-Chair for Research, Director of the Laboratory for Male Reproductive Research and Testing, and Professor in the Departments of Urology and Molecular and Cellular Biology. She is an investigator in the fields of urology, male and female reproduction, infertility steroid hormone action and growth regulatory mechanisms. Her experience is unique, as she has extensive background in both the clinical diagnostic and basic science arenas in urology and human male and female infertility. Her post-doctoral studies were in the area of uterine physiology and early pregnancy. She directs two large clinical diagnostic laboratories specializing in state of the art diagnosis of male reproductive and urologic defects as well as a large sperm bank for fertility preservation.

Dr. Lamb was honored as the first recipient of the Distinguished Researcher Award by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine in recognition of her lifelong achievements in reproductive research, the Ramon Gutierras Lecture, the American Urological Association’s award for her contributions to Urology, The Distinguished Andrologist Award from the American Society of Andrology and was the third person ever named as Distinguished Urologist from the Society for the Study of Male Reproduction of the American Urological association in 2013.

She has served as President of a wide variety of medical and biomedical research societies including the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Society for the Study of Male Reproduction, the American Urological Association, Society for Basic Urologic Research and the American Society of Andrology. She served as the first Ph.D. President of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine in 2011-2012 and continues to serve on the presidential chain of leaders for the society.

Dr. Lamb has expertise in both basic science and clinical aspects of urology, and a long and successful track record of mentoring residents, students and fellows. She has trained 61 MD, PhD, MD/PhD fellows (of whom 8 are now department chairmen), 18 residents, 7 graduate students and 27 undergraduate students. In 2007 she received the Distinguished Mentor Award from the American Urological Association Foundation. She directs 3 large training grants focused on the career development of physician and translational scientists specializing in pediatric and men's health research.
