Professional Statement
The thyroid hormone system is a key regulator of fundamental metabolic processes, including the control of basal metabolic rate. A major current focus of my group is understanding how thyroid hormone receptor (TR) signaling regulates adaptive thermogenesis, the conversion of excess energy (e.g. fat) to heat, with an eye towards manipulating this system pharmacologically to develop new therapeutics to treat diabetes and obesity. We use a multidisciplinary approach to that combines pharmacology, genetic mouse models, biochemistry, and structural studies to develop a holistic understanding of TR mediated beige and brown fat thermogenesis.Websites
