Professional Statement
Dr. Edward Reece is a practicing, board-certified plastic and hand surgeon who implements telemedicine solutions to enhance hospital-based patient encounters. He lectures nationally on technique and technology applied to plastic surgery, and technological innovation in health care. He has served as a team leader for patient care at several major hospital systems around the Greater Phoenix area. Currently he practices Plastic Surgery and Surgery of the Hand at the Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital, serving as the Chief of Plastic Surgery, in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery, at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.Educated at the University of Virginia, he graduated with distinction with a Bachelor of Arts. He has a passion for research enterprises from the cellular level to the clinical and societal levels which have led to peer reviewed publications and lectures. His completion of medical school at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine produced both a Doctor of Medicine degree and a Master’s degree for applied anatomical sciences.
It was the love of anatomy that drove his decision to matriculate to University of Texas Southwestern Plastic Surgery Department in Dallas, Texas to study surgical techniques employed in Plastic Surgery. From Dallas, he trained under David P Green at The University of Texas San Antonio expanding his repertoire to upper extremity orthopedics and microvascular reconstructive surgery.
Joining the Arizona Center for Hand Surgery in 2009, he began the start of his professional career in the Phoenix metropolitan area, which extended seven years. He is an ambassador for the American Board of Plastic Surgery and carries their certification. He is also a fully certified hand surgeon and is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. Along with a busy clinical practice, he has trained young resident doctors in orthopedics and plastic and reconstructive surgery. He has served as faculty for the Banner Health, Upper Extremity Fellowship as the Banner Desert Site Director. He has also been clinical faculty with the University Of Nebraska Division Of Plastic Surgery. In addition to these activities, his publications in major clinical journals and his level of patient care earned him the recognition as a “Phoenix Top Doc” in Phoenix magazine for three years. Dr. Reece has participated in medical mission trips to care for the less fortunate in third world countries.
His other interests are in entrepreneurship. Graduating in 2015 from the WP Carey School of Business from Arizona State University with an Executive Master’s Degree in Business Administration with an additional certification in Healthcare Supply Chain, he acquired skill in business management. He has served as the Chief Medical Officer for a telehealth company, helping to revolutionize patient access to healthcare across the country. Dr. Reece’s dedication to innovation and technology is underscored by a fundamental view that physicians must be committed to serving their patients and provide superior levels of care.
He is the founder of several biomedical companies which seek to find efficiency and cost savings for institutions while preserving the highest quality to patients. System analysis of Supply Chain in Hospitals has been another of his interests and he has served as a Healthcare Supply Chain consultant at Dignity Health, in Phoenix, Arizona. Identifying opportunities for efficiencies and providing solutions for better patient care is at the heart of what drives Dr. Reece.
