Clinical Training Program - Letter from Program Director

Thank you for your interest in the Child Neurology Residency Program at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). Our program mission is to provide each resident with comprehensive training in Child Neurology that prepares them for a successful and fulfilling career. We provide Core Competency-based training and evaluations to assure that our residents achieve the essential skills needed to become outstanding Child Neurologists. Our program's strengths are based upon a large and diverse patient population, outstanding clinical facilities and a faculty dedicated to training our residents.

Residents selected for this program benefit from outstanding clinical training and research programs geared toward understanding childhood neurologic problems. As a resident in our program, you will see a broad range of pediatric neurological diseases in infants, children and adolescents spanning from the common to the rare. You will attend didactic conferences covering a diversity of topics to include basic neuroscience and clinical medicine. You will learn to become a clinician educator through interactions with other residents and medical students at BCM. You will also have opportunities to engage in clinical and basic neuroscience research with our internationally recognized faculty.

Texas Children’s Hospital is BCM’s primary affiliated pediatric teaching hospital. The largest children’s hospital in the United States, Texas Children’s was one of only twelve hospitals nationally designated by U.S. News and World Report in 2012-13 for Honor Roll status, ranking 4th overall and 5th among America’s best neurology and neurosurgery programs. We continue to build on our successes since the opening in 2010 of The Dan and Jan Duncan Neurological Research Institute (NRI). The NRI is the first translational neuroscience research institute in the country dedicated to the understanding and treatment of pediatric neurological diseases. Our Child Neurology Residency Program was also commended by the ACGME for its substantial compliance with the ACGME's Requirements for Graduate Medical Education. The program has received a 5-year ongoing accreditation status based upon its recent exceptional review by the Residency Review Committee and the ACGME.

Texas Children's Hospital buildingThe current growth of the Child Neurology and Neurosciences at Baylor College of Medicine makes this an exciting time to join our team and be at the forefront of innovative patient care, research and education.
