BCM Social Dance Club is a Baylor College of Medicine-based organization that promotes the joys of social dancing to Baylor students, faculty, staff, and community members.
We hold classes in salsa, bachata, merengue, rumba, cha-cha, waltz, swing, contra dance, and more. We also provide dancing opportunities through social dance outings and interactions with other social dance clubs in the Houston area.
We do our best to provide these activities for free to any one that wishes to participate. Therefore, we are continuously seeking volunteer instructors.
The dance club was founded by Shirley Chan-Ramirez, M.D. while she was a medical student at Baylor in 2007. She saw a need for a fun and low-key environment on campus to learn how to dance as well as mingle with fellow students and staff. She started off teaching basic salsa with her husband for free, then recruited a professional dancer to teach more advanced salsa for a $5 fee. Swing lessons were taught for free by a graduate student at the Baylor gym. From there, the club has grown and flourished to what it is today!
