Wearing makeup can give anyone a sense of protection from the imperfections and flaws seen on the skin. Makeup, such as foundation, has the ability to boost confidence so much that many people wouldn’t dare to go makeup free. However, going makeup free has its benefits – and its supporters, with many celebrities getting behind the new makeup free trend.
Dr. Ramsey Markus of Baylor College of Medicine says that there are many perks when choosing to bare it all.
“Some makeup can clog the pores and cause you to break out,” said Markus, associate professor of dermatology, director of the Laser Surgery Center and co-director of the Baylor College of Medicine Aesthetics.
Besides the possibility of having clearer natural looking skin, Markus says another benefit to going makeup free is the cost. “People spend a lot of money on makeup, and if they are able to cut their use of makeup they will save a lot of money,” he said.
Anyone who feels insecure about their skin might consider laser treatments. Markus says that there are various treatments available to reduce brown spots, scars and redness on the skin.
“After we do laser treatment, people often say that they don’t have to use as much makeup or any makeup at all to cover things up because their skin looks more even,” he said.
Improving the skin with cosmetic procedures can be very helpful to your self-confidence, Markus said.
For those opting for the no-makeup look, Markus reminded that people are their own worst critic.
“Everybody is more critical of themselves than the people around them,” he said. “Part of going makeup free is just accepting what you have and being comfortable in your own skin. I think it’s important that people realize that not everybody is as critical of how we look as we are ourselves.”
