Faculty Kudos

Dr. Lilei ZhangDr. Lilei Zhang, assistant professor of molecular and human genetics, received the Ron Konopka Memorial Junior Faculty Award from the Texas Society for Circadian Biology and Medicine. It was presented at the annual meeting of the society held in Houston on Dec. 10.

Dr. Cecilia LjungberDr. Cecilia Ljungberg, assistant professor of pediatrics – neurology, directs the RNA In Situ Hybridization Core which has been awarded Core of the Year by the Advanced Technology Cores at Baylor. Ljungberg's core is in the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute.

Coming Up

TMC Library Hours: The Texas Medical Center Library has limited hours Dec. 18-22. The facility will be closed Dec. 23 through Jan. 2. Regular hours resume Jan. 3View the library calendar.

Weight Watchers: Starting in 2023, eligible employees and spouses can enroll in Weight Watchers at no cost. Participants can earn points in the wellness portal for enrollment and attending any WW sessions. For questions, email wellness@bcm.edu.

2022 Flexible Spending Accounts: Benefits-eligible employees enrolled in a Healthcare and/or Dependent Care FSA have until Dec. 31 to incur eligible expenses. Any unused balances will be forfeited. All FSA claim forms must be submitted to United Healthcare by March 31, 2023 for any eligible expenses incurred through Dec. 31. For questions, email ask-insurance@bcm.edu.

Faculty Opportunities

Volunteer opportunity: Baylor College of Medicine, in collaboration with Bayou City Blessings in a Backpack, will host a volunteer opportunity Jan. 13 to help pack donated food in bags for children in need. The in-person volunteer event will take place at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, 12535 Perthshire Road, 77024. The organization provides food on the weekends and during school breaks for Houston children who might otherwise go hungry. To volunteer, complete this sign-up form. PBL Faculty Facilitators: The School of Medicine is recruiting for Problem-Based Learning Faculty Facilitators for AY 2022-'23. This role is supported with up to 20% FTE based on year-round engagement. The new PBL program will deliver a large fraction of students' learning of medical knowledge in the new curriculum. Senior Associate Dean of Curriculum: The senior associate dean provides leadership and oversight for the Office of Curriculum under the direction of the vice dean for the School of Medicine. Baylor's accelerated, integrated approach to teaching the core scientific concepts that underlie medicine and incorporates diverse clinical training opportunities to create a curriculum that prepares students for success. Education Hackathon Update: Calling All Educational Innovators – The team registration deadline for the second annual Department of Education, Innovation & Technology Hackathon has been extended to early January.
