Dr. Luis Rustveld, assistant professor of family community medicine – research, was quoted in U.S. News & World Report, "A Guide to the TLC Diet," on Sept. 13. Rustveld is a registered dietician.

Flor Munoz, associate professor of pediatrics – infectious diseases, and Maria Elena Bottazzi, associate dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine, will be honored by the City of Houston in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month. The mayor will recognize each of the eight honorees with proclamations during three Houston city council public meetings, and the awards will be presented Oct. 19 at the Hispanic Heritage Awards Ceremony.

Coming Up

Breast Cancer Awareness 5K: The annual Susan G. Komen Houston Race for the Cure will be at 8 a.m. Oct. 1. The 5K race begins at Sam Houston Park downtown. Join the Baylor College of Medicine team and donate to breast cancer research here.

OMG Lecture: On Oct. 4, Dr. Robert Sobol, professor of oncologic sciences and pharmacology at the University of South Alabama, will deliver an OMG lecture on replication-associated base excision repair. The virtual session will be at 9 a.m. Register now.

Veterans Day 2022: Are you a veteran and a member of the Baylor College of Medicine community? In honor of Veterans Day, we would like to recognize and pay tribute to the many veterans who make up our community. Please send your photo in uniform or during active duty, professional or candid to pa@bcm.edu. All submitted photos will be shared publicly on Baylor's social media channels and internal communications. This is open to students, staff and faculty. Please include your name, Baylor title, military branch, rank and years in which you served.

Nutrition and Pregnancy Study: Women in the first trimester of pregnancy are needed for a study of how nutrition throughout pregnancy impacts mothers and infants. The study involves four visits during pregnancy and one postpartum visit with the option to enroll infants. Visits involve body composition measurements, blood and milk samples, surveys on health and food, optical skin measurements and vision testing. Eligible participants must be healthy and meet body mass index criteria.
