Bushong gives keynote address

Dr. Stewart BushongDr. Stewart Bushong, professor of radiology, was the keynote speaker at the 12th Annual Rural Alliance in Nuclear Scintigraphy (RAINS) Congress in Port Macquarie, Australia. His presentation was titled "The Galloping Pace of Computed Tomography"

Rosen honored by dermatology academy

Dr. Ted RosenDr. Ted Rosen, professor of dermatology, will receive a Presidential Citation at the American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting in March in Washington, D.C. He is being recognized for extraordinary teaching and significant contributions and dedication to promoting excellent patient care.

Stein elected AAP president for 2017

Dr. Fernando SteinDr. Fernando Stein, associate professor of pediatrics, was selected as president-elect of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He will take over as president on Jan. 1, 2017. He was chosen by members of the AAP, which is made up of more than 64,000 primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists and pediatric surgical specialists dedicated to the health, safety and well-being of infants, children, adolescents and young adults.

Tolias’ receive grant for research

Drs. Kimberley Tolias and Andreas Tolias, both associate professor of neuroscience, were selected to receive a 2016 Memory and Cognitive Disorders Award from the McKnight Endowment Fund for Neuroscience. The award supports innovative research by U.S. scientists who are studying neurological and psychiatric diseases, especially those related to memory and cognition. The Tolias’ project, “Studying global memory traces at single synapse resolution,” will receive $300,000 over three years.

Doc Talk Dec. 7

The next DocTalk will be Monday, Dec. 7, at noon in Cullen Auditorium on tips for healthy eating and nutrition with Dr. Elizabeth Vaughan of the department of internal medicine. Benefits-eligible employees who attend can receive BCM BeWell Vitality points.

Holiday concert performance

The Houston Tuesday Musical Club will perform a holiday concert Thursday, Dec. 10, from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. in Rayzor Lounge. Cookies and punch will be served afterward. The concert is presented by the department of molecular and cellular biology.

Jingle Bell Run

Baylor Sports Medicine will serve as the medical sponsor of the 2015 YMCA Jingle Bell Run & Walk on Sunday, Dec. 13 in downtown Houston. Join the Baylor team at this family-friendly event benefitting the Tellepsen Family Downtown YMCA by registering online (select “Corp Team” and then search for BCM Reindeer Runners). Participants will receive BCM BeWell Vitality points.

BCM BeWell Getaway to Good Health party

Benefits-eligible employees who participated in and completed the BCM BeWell Getaway to Good Health steps campaign are invited to a beach-themed celebration to pick up their prizes. Those who attend the event can take a photo against a beach background and post it to their favorite social media site with the hash tags #iwalkedtopanamacity #getawaytogoodhealth #beachbod. A confirmation email will be sent the week of Dec. 7 to participants who have met the challenge criteria and are eligible for prizes. Email wellness@bcm.edu for more information. Holiday drives

Baylor is sponsoring a holiday toy drive to benefit the Child Advocates’ Santa’s Wish List Program, which provides new gifts and clothing for children who have been victims of life-threatening abuse or neglect and placed in protective custody. This wish list program serves children from newborns to 18 years. Bring a new and unwrapped gift on the following dates to make the holidays brighter for children in Harris County! In addition, the Association for Graduate Student Diversity is collecting items for the Star of Hope through Dec. 23. Donation bins are located outside the ERC on the third floor of the DeBakey Building at Main Baylor. Items being collected include gently used clothes, toys and canned food.
