Caskey receives Duke alumni award

Dr. Thomas CaskeyDr. Thomas Caskey, professor of molecular and human genetics, received the Anlyan Life Achievement Award from the Duke Medical Alumni Association at a dinner celebration held Nov. 12. Watch Caskey’s award video.

Hotez honored for research, education

Dr. Peter HotezDr. Peter Hotez , dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor, will receive a 2015 Seeds of Hope Award from the Houston chapter of RESULTS at a ceremony Nov. 22. He is being recognized for his dedication to making new vaccines for neglected but widely-affecting diseases, raising awareness of global health, engaging in vaccine diplomacy and educating young scientists and emerging doctors. RESULTS in an organization focused on improving health, education and microfinance.

Philanthropic efforts that support Baylor awarded

The Association of Fundraising Professionals Greater Houston Chapter celebrated National Philanthropy Day at a luncheon Nov. 19. In addition to Baylor’s chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society being named Outstanding Community Service Organization, other individuals and groups with Baylor connections were honored. Lester and Sue Smith, whose contributions to Baylor include support of the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center, received the Maurice Hirsh Award for Philanthropy; Bristol-Myers Squibb, which supports the Baylor International Pediatric AIDS Initiative and other global health programs, was named the Houston Business Journal Outstanding Large Corporation and The Cullen Trust for Health Care, which provides major support to the College, was named Outstanding Philanthropic Foundation.

Upcoming Allied Health events

The School of Allied Health Sciences has two important upcoming events. The graduating classes of the Physician Assistant Program and the Orthotics and Prosthetics Program will present their masters’ papers via poster presentations on Wednesday, Dec. 2, from 1 to 3 p.m. in Rayzor Lounge. Allied Health Commencement will be Saturday, Dec. 5, at 11 a.m. at the Grand Hall at the Grand Hall at the Lancaster Center, 71 Oakdale, Houston, 77004.

Complete your compliance training

Baylor is committed to promoting a strong culture of excellence that encourages all Dr. Peter Hotezemployees to conduct themselves with the highest ethical standard. Compliance Services has developed mandatory annual General Compliance Training to provide further education and emphasis on the newly launched BCM Code of Conduct and important compliance policies and procedures. Dr. Paul Klotman has completed (and passed) his training, now it's your turn! Compliance will be sending out reminders by email to complete the training, which must be done by Jan. 30.

Nominations open for Robertson Award

Nominations are being accepted for the 2016 Barbara and Corbin J. Robertson, Jr. Presidential Award for Excellence in Education. This college-wide award is bestowed annually on active faculty members who have made stellar and enduring contributions to the educational mission of college. The Robertson Award website contains information on the details of eligibility, the required nomination letters, their contents, suggested supporting materials, as well as additional information about the current nomination and selection process. BCM BeWell deadlines

Nov. 24 is the deadline for benefits-eligible employees to complete the 2015 BCM BeWell Biometric Screening for BCM BeWell Vitality points to count towards the 16,000 BCM BeWell Vitality points goal for the 2016 Medical Premium Reduction. Nov. 30 is the deadline for benefits-eligible employees to complete the 2015 BCM BeWell Biometric Screening and Vitality Health Review to receive a $50 Amazon gift card. Cafeteria news

The cafeteria on the main Baylor campus will close one hour early on Friday, Nov. 20. And, for those of you looking for a convenient holiday meal solution, Mary O’s catering is offering meal options starting at $14.95 with pickup at the cafe at the Jamail Specialty Care Center. For Thanksgiving, order by Monday, Nov. 23. For the menu and to order, call 832-991-0955.
