Awards and Recognitions
Speer named Texas Medical Association president-elect
Dr. Michael Speer, professor of pediatrics - neonatology, has been named president-elect of the Texas Medical Association, the nation's largest state medical society. The TMA House of Delegates elected Speer at the group's recent annual meeting in Houston. Speer has been a member of the Harris County Medical Society delegation to TMA since 1988. He will serve as president-elect for one year, before becoming TMA's 147th president.
Petersen elected national officer of the American Statistical Association
Dr. Nancy Petersen, associate professor of medicine - health services research, was recently elected to program chair-elect of the American Statistical Association, Statistical Programmers and Analysts Section. The ASA is the world's largest community of statisticians. Members serve in industry, government and academia in more than 90 countries, advancing research and promoting sound statistical practice to inform public policy and improve human welfare.

Baylor's commencement ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 24, at 7 p.m. in the Jesse H. Jones Hall for the Performing Arts, 615 Louisiana St. The 2011 graduating class includes 178 medical school graduates and 85 graduates from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at BCM. Dr. Peter Hotez, internationally renowned physician-scientist, will be this year's commencement speaker.
