Zheng appointed to endowed chair

Dr. Hui Zheng, professor and director of the Huffington Center on Aging at BCM, was appointed to the Huffington Foundation Endowed Chair in Aging. Zheng joined the BCM faculty in 1999 and was appointed director of the center in January 2010. Her research focus is Alzheimer's disease.

Media Noche"Media Noche," an exhibit by BCM photographer Agapito Sanchez, will be on display at Casa Ramirez in the Heights from March 30 to April 22. Photos depict the night sky as seen through Sanchez's eyes. An opening reception will be held Saturday, March 31, from 4 to 7 p.m. including music, food and refreshments. Casa Ramirez is located at 241 W. 19th Street, Houston, Texas, 77008. The exhibit is part of FotoFest 2012.

Peacock joins section of emergency medicine

Dr. William Franklin Peacock Dr. William Franklin Peacock has joined BCM's section of emergency medicine in the department of medicine as associate chief and director of research. Peacock received the American College of Emergency Physicians Research Award in 2004 and 2010 and is internationally recognized on the subject of cardiac emergencies. He is president of the Society of Chest Pain Centers, editor of four books and has more than 200 peer reviewed publications. He joins BCM from the Cleveland Clinic, where he has been vice chair and professor for emergency medicine.

Dementia program highlighted

Partners in Dementia Care, a collaborative program directed by Dr. Mark E. Kunik, professor in the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at BCM, was profiled in the February 2012 issue of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Innovations Exchange, a comprehensive program designed to increase the development and adoption of innovations in health care delivery. The profile describes the program's development, results and lessons learned. Kunik is also with the section of Health Services Research at BCM and the Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The program is funded by the VA.

Lupski, genetics research featured on national TV show

Dr. James Lupski, the Cullen Endowed Chair in Molecular Genetics Professor at BCM, and genetics research led by a team at BCM were featured last week on the nationally televised CBS show "The Doctors." The segment aired Tuesday, March 6 and can be seen in two parts on the show's website.
