Yudofsky Annual Lectureship established
The department of psychiatry and behavioral neuroscience at the University of Chicago Medical Center has inaugurated "The Stuart C. Yudofsky Annual Lectureship in Neuropsychiatry." Dr. Stuart Yudofsky, chair and professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at BCM, will deliver the first annual lectured, titled "Neuropsychiatry and the Future of Psychiatry and Neurology" on March 10. Yudofsky served as professor and chairman of the department of psychiatry of the University of Chicago School of Medicine prior to joining BCM in 1991.
Lacorazza receives grant for cancer research
Dr. Daniel Lacorazza, assistant professor of pathology and immunology, has been awarded a grant from the Gabrielle's Angel Foundation for Cancer Research. The $225,000 award will be dispersed over a three-year period. Lacorazza was nominated for the award on behalf of the Dan L Duncan Cancer Center at BCM. The Gabrielle's Angel Foundation for Cancer Research funds research to improve the efficacy of cancer treatments, reduce their toxicity and improve the quality of life of patients with leukemia or lymphoma.
Diabetes and Native Americans focus of Chan lecture
Dr. Lawrence Chan, professor of medicine and molecular and cellular biology, had the honor of being the keynote speaker for the 14th Annual Talking Stick Business Network Forum and International Trade Fair hosted by the Native American Chamber of Commerce last week. His speech was titled, "Diabetes and Health for Native Americans: A Call to Action." Chan is also the Betty Rutherford Chair for Diabetes Research and director of the Diabetes and Endocrinology Research Center.

Emergency Residents Appreciation Day
The inaugural class of emergency medicine residents at BCM celebrated Emergency Medicine Resident Appreciation Day March 2. They were joined by faculty members Dr. Bobby Kapur, Dr. Angela Fisher and Dr. Shkelzen Hoxhaj, assistant professor of medicine - emergency medicine.
The celebration included a lecture on the history of emergency medicine by Dr. Angela Gardner, past president of the American College of Emergency Physicians. She played a key role in the passage of medical liability reform in her home state of Texas.
Residents were recognized for the leadership they have shown in the clinical and academic arenas and for their willingness to forge the path for the future of emergency medicine at BCM and Ben Taub General Hospital.

Volunteers needed for the BCM Avon Walk cheer station
The Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center is proud to again serve as the official medical sponsor for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Houston. In addition to medical resources, the Breast Center is in need of volunteers to staff the cheer station that will be set up outside of the main Baylor College of Medicine building Saturday, April 16, from 1- 5:30 p.m.
If you would like to join the Cheer Team to rally the walkers as they complete the two-day, 39.3 mile trek, please contact Helen Carlson at hcarlson@bcm.edu.
