Baylor named mother-friendly workplace

Dr. Susan BlaneyBaylor College of Medicine has been designated as a Texas Mother-Friendly Worksite by the Texas Department of State Health Services. Baylor joins more than 2,000 worksites across the state that have received this designation for their commitment to improving the health of Texans by proactively supporting their employees in meeting their breastfeeding goals. Among Baylor's mother-friendly initiatives are Mother's Aid stations located across campus.

Events

CAMRI open house March 1

The Core for Advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging will host a ribbon cutting and open house Tuesday, March 1, from noon to 2 p.m. in the Smith Building room S104 to introduce its new MRI scanner. The new machine is a Siemens Prisma, the most advanced MRI scanner available and the only one in Houston. Stop by to learn more and have cookies and refreshments.

Market Days March 2

The next Market Days at BCM is Wednesday, March 2, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Rayzor Lounge at main Baylor. Visit this month’s vendors to shop for items including artisanal coffee, chocolate, soaps, cold-pressed juices, nut milks, thrift clothes and more. Professionalism Month events

Professionalism Month at Baylor kicks of Thursday, March 3, with two lectures on the art of perception by author and professor Amy Herman, J.D. Ethics CME credit available. Find times and locations for these talks and other Professionalism Month events online.

Wear blue day March 4

Join the department of gastroenterology and hepatology for National Dress in Blue Day on Friday, March 4, to raise awareness and educate people on colon cancer and how they can reduce their risk of the disease. Find more information online.

Life science entrepreneurship course

The Life Science Entrepreneurship course for medical and graduate students will be held March 15 through April 21, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Rice University. This long-running course focuses on the role of physicians, scientists, MBAs and engineers in high-tech startup companies. Leaders from Baylor and other TMC institutions will serve as guest speakers, and the course is led by Dr. Jack Gill and Dr. Robert Ulrich, both successful entrepreneurs and venture capitalists. Join BCM BeWell fruit and veggie challenge!

Join the Healthy Colors Count four-week challenge starting March 7. This challenge focuses on consuming fruits and vegetables of different colors each day. Eligible participants who complete required criteria will earn 500 BCM BeWell Vitality Points. Fruits and veggies provide important nutrients and disease fighting phytochemicals but the key is to choose a wide variety of colors! Register for the Healthy Colors Count Challenge.
