Jayaram earns new investigator award
Dr. Prathap Jayaram, assistant professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation, received the Richard Materson ERF New Investigator Award from the Foundation for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation for his research, "In Vivo Gene Therapy Treatment Compared to Autologous Conditioned Plasma for Post-traumatic Osteoarthritis."
Events
Black History Month
A number of events will be held on campus in February to commemorate Black History Month, including a "Black History in Science" film series organized by the Association for Graduate School Diversity. The series starts with a viewing of "Hidden Figures," today, Feb. 8, at 3 p.m. in room M112 at main Baylor, and continues each Friday in February. View the events schedule. In addition, Baylor trainees have compiled information on key figures in black history in medicine to serve as inspiration to today's generation of trainees and health professionals. Read more.
Annual recycling contest

Feb. 11: Brendan Lee talks precision medicine
Baylor's Precision Medicine Grand Rounds series continues on Feb. 11, noon to 1 p.m., Denton A. Cooley Auditorium at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center, 6770 Bertner Ave., with a talk by Dr. Brendan Lee on "Multi-Omic Approach to Undiagnosed Diseases." Lee is professor and chair of the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics.
Women and Girls in Science Day
Baylor College of Medicine celebrates International Women and Girls in Science Day on Monday, Feb. 11, by acknowledging the important contributions made by female healthcare professionals and scientists, and the mentorship that they provide to tomorrow's generation of women entering STEM careers. Watch in this video as Dr. Sharmila Anandasabapathy talks with her daughter about the importance of research.

Nominations open for Women of Excellence
Nominations are being accepted for the Women of Excellence Awards, which will be presented during Women's History Month in March. Nominees can be women and men, faculty, staff and trainees, who have demonstrated extraordinary dedication to issues that affect women at Baylor College of Medicine or in the larger community while also exemplifying Baylor values. Nominate 'Health Care Heroes' for recognition
Nominate Baylor College of Medicine's outstanding physicians and healthcare professionals for Houston Business Journal's Health Care Heroes. Awards will be presented in several categories at a ceremony in May. See criteria and nominate top physicians and other healthcare providers by March 1.
BeWell news: Spring into Fitness Challenge
Benefits-eligible employees can focus on physical activity by joining BCM BeWell's spring challenge to complete verified workouts during March. Workouts can be verified through an active device, gym visits through the Vitality Today app or using the manual workout submission form. Vitality points awarded depend on number of workouts completed. Register on the BeWell portal under Community, then My Challenges.
