February is Heart month

Heart Month

Baylor has full slate of activities and resources to help you stay heart healthy this month and beyond.
Wear Red Day: Today is National Wear Red Day, a national movement to fight heart disease in women. Send a photo of yourself and your colleagues wearing red and send it to Anna.Kiappes@bcm.edu by 1 p.m. to be featured on Baylor's social media channels.
DocTalk: Dr. Alireza Nazeri, professor of medicine – cardiology, will discuss stroke risk in patients with atrial fibrillation on Thursday, Feb. 8, at noon in Cullen Auditorium. Eligible employees who attend may receive BCM BeWell Vitality points.
Red Lights: The Cullen Building will be lighted red all month in recognition of Heart Month.
Videos and additional resources: A series of videos on heart health topics, including today's video on heart attack symptoms in women, will be released throughout the month. Find them on our Heart Month webpage along with more information and resources.

Awards and Recognitions

Agrawal elected ACP fellow

Dr. Anoop AgrawalDr. Anoop Agrawal, assistant professor of medicine and pediatrics and director of the internal residency and pediatrics residency program, was elected a fellow of the American College of Physicians. Fellowship recognizes a physician's excellence and contributions to medicine and to the community. The 2018 fellows will be inducted at the ACP's annual internal medicine meeting in April.

March Madness at Baylor

Get ready for March Madness – Baylor style. The Office of Student Services will host its first BCM March Madness Basketball Challenge, Feb. 15 – March 9. All Baylor faculty, staff, students and trainees are welcome to participate; co-ed teams are encouraged! Games will be played on Thursdays and Fridays in the Baylor gym in Garage 6. To sign up, complete the waiver/registration form and email it to Angelica Almarez or drop it off in the Career Development Center, 271A in the Cullen Building. Registration deadline is Feb. 9. Save the Date: Team-building event Feb. 22

The next Team Discovery teamwork workshop will be held Feb. 22 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in room 323 of the DeBakey Building at main Baylor. The focus of this session will be "Innovation: Getting Your Team Out of the Box." Learn more about Team Launch.

BeWell news: Register for BINGO Challenge

Commit to making healthy food choices by registering for BCM BeWell BINGO, where you will track your consumption of a variety of fruits and vegetables and earn BeWell Vitality points. Employees will have four weeks, Feb. 19 - March 19, to complete the challenge and must complete the final survey by March 23. Questions? Email wellness@bcm.edu.

Requests for abstracts

Quality and patient safety: The Baylor College of Medicine 5th Annual Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Conference will be held April 26, offering health professionals and students interested in quality and safety an opportunity to present their ideas in an interactive forum. The conference will highlight a peer-reviewed selection of quality and safety research projects and program innovations. Submissions involving quality and safety are encouraged, including quality improvement projects, patient safety initiatives, educational innovations and similar topics. Abstracts may be submitted online by Friday, Feb. 16, at 5 p.m.
Precision medicine: The College has embarked on an ambitious plan to develop a premier program in precision medicine with a focus on population health, and a call for applications for the 2018 Precision Medicine/Population Health Initiative is underway. Application guidelines and a definition of key terms are available online. Projects must leverage large data sets that are currently available at BCM or at an affiliated hospital or health network and must be relevant to population-based clinical care. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. Feb. 23. For more information, contact the Office of Strategic and Institutional Planning at ieoffice@bcm.edu.

Title IX responsible employees

A responsible employee is a College employee who has the authority to take action to redress an alleged violation of Prohibited Conduct (as defined in BCM Policy 02.2.26). Responsible employees have a duty to promptly report incidents of sex-based discrimination and prohibited conduct directly to the Title IX coordinator. Additionally, responsible employees are not confidential reporting resources. A listing of groups of College administrators designated by Baylor College of Medicine as responsible employees is now available on the College's website.
