Singh cited in American Medical Association and Institute of Medicine reports

Dr. Hardeep Singh Dr. Hardeep Singh, assistant professor of medicine in the section of health services research and chief of the Health Policy and Quality Program at the Houston VA Health Services Research and Development Center of Excellence, had nine manuscripts cited in the American Medical Association's “Research in Ambulatory Patient Safety, 2000-2010: A 10-year review” report published in December. His work was also noted in their Executive Summary.

This report summarizes research and initiatives on patient safety in ambulatory care settings over the last decade and sets out a research agenda in ambulatory patient safety. This achievement also followed an Institute of Medicine report “Health IT and Patient Safety: Building Safer Systems for Better Care” released in November on health IT and patient safety that also highlights work done by Singh.

VA named part of Women's Health Research Network

The Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center was recently selected as a Women's Health Practice-Based Research Network site member by the Department of VA Affairs. Dr. Rola El-Serag, assistant professor of medicine at BCM, is the medical director of the DeBakey VA's Women's Health Center.

The Women's Health Research Network focuses on VA investigators with interests in women's health research and those who are interested in adding women to their research.

Webinar to cover cervical screening guidelines

Dr. Virginia Moyer, professor of pediatrics at BCM and chair of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, and Dr. Lois M. Ramondetta, professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and chief of gynecologic oncology at Lyndon Baines Johnson General Hospital in the Harris County Hospital District, will discuss new cervical cancer screening guidelines from the Preventive Services Task Force and the American Cancer Society during a webinar. Sponsored by the Women’s Fund for Health, Education and Research and the Texas Medical Center Women’s Health Network, the free, interactive webinar will be held Monday, Jan. 9, at noon.

Harris County Public Library materials are now available for convenient pickup at the Texas Medical Center Library location. Simply select the materials you want in the HCPL catalog, place a request using your library card, and the items will be delivered to The TMC Library. You will receive a notification by e-mail or phone when you items are ready to be picked up.
