Symposium highlights work of graduate students

The 2012 Graduate Student Symposium was held Oct. 12 in Cullen Auditorium and Rayzor Lounge. The annual event showcases the graduate students' research through poster and oral presentations. In addition, numerous awards are presented at the event.

Poster winners included:

  • First place: Merry Ruan, molecular and human genetics; Tingting Sun, biochemistry and molecular biology; Liubin Yang, molecular and human genetics; Ran You, immunology.
  • Second place: Antentor Hinton, cell and molecular biology; Nicole Kettner, molecular and cellular biology; Lena Nguyen, neuroscience; Shiuan Wang, developmental biology.
  • Third place: Maksim Mamonkin, immunology; Ayesha Shafi, molecular and cellular biology; Maria Szwarc, molecular and cellular biology; Tianshu Yang, translational biology and molecular medicine.
  • Honorable Mention: Rita Czako, translational biology and molecular medicine; Gloria Echeverria, molecular and cellular biology; Holly Hamilton, molecular and cellular biology; Erica Homan, molecular and human genetics; Wen Lu, immunology; Jennifer Rogers, molecular and cellular biology.
  • The Beckman Poster Award was presented to Merry Ruan, molecular and human genetics.
