Baylor College of Medicine has partnered with the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer Houston every step of its five-year journey in Houston.

April 22, the Avon Walk – a two-day, 39.3-mile event to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer – wrapped its fifth annual walk in Houston. BCM served as the official medical sponsor for the fifth year in a row.

As the medical sponsor, BCM provides all medical care and supplies for the more than 1,000 participants. This year, the team of health care professionals was led by Dr. Polly Niravath, assistant professor at the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center at BCM.

More than 40 professionals volunteered over the course of the two-day walk, helping bandage blisters, rehydrate walkers and more.

Outside the Cullen Building, BCM also hosted a cheer station and pit stop, which marked the 24th mile of the 26-mile first day leg of the race.
