Research award established in honor of Bobby Alford

Dr. Bobby Alford was recently honored with the establishment of the Bobby R. Alford, M.D., Endowed Research Grant by the American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery Foundation.
The grant will help facilitate the career development of young investigators in otolaryngology. The award is intended to promote clinical, translational or basic science investigation that will lead to improved understanding of the etioloyg and/or novel treatments for diseases and disorders with the realm of otolaryngology.
Alford is an internationally recognized leader in otolaryngology. Under his leadership the Baylor and Methodist otolaryngology departments have developed into preeminent patient care, postgraduate education and research programs.
After more than 40 years of distinguished leadership, Alford has stepped down as chair of the Bobby R. Alford Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at BCM and chair of the Methodist Hospital department of otolaryngology.
He will continue to serve as the chairman and CEO of the NASA funded National Space Biomedical Research Institute, a consortium of institutions that includes Baylor College of Medicine as the lead institution. He will also continue as chair of the Caroline Wiess Law Endowment for Academic Excellence, which supports the recruitment to BCM of physician-scientists to who propose to translate basic science findings into improved patient treatments.
