Baylor College of Medicine’s second annual Wellness 5K Race/Walk to take place this Saturday
When it comes to good health, medical students at Baylor College of Medicine can talk the talk, but they also want to bring the Houston community together to walk the walk at the second annual BCM Wellness 5K Race and Walk.
The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 12, at 8 a.m. The race will start at BCM’s main campus, located at One Baylor Plaza, Houston, TX 77030, and take a scenic route along Brays Bayou and the Texas Medical Center.
Students hope to join with the community to focus on health as a concept that extends beyond the clinic to include social, psychological and environmental elements of health.
This year, the event will help fund medical student-initiated community service projects through the Grants for Leadership Opportunities in Wellness (GLOW) Awards as well as the Student Wellness Program, which helps future physicians learn how to become better educators of wellness.
Post-race activities will take place at the McGovern Commons of the Texas Medical Center, 6550 Bertner Ave., and will include a kids’ 1K race at 9:30 a.m. and an awards ceremony with food, music and prizes.
