Is your child heading off to summer camp or preparing for the next school year's extracurricular activities? Healthcare providers at Baylor Family Medicine Quick Care say don't forget about the required physical exams.
"There are specific pre-participation physical exams that every child needs before being allowed to take part in camp, extracurricular or sport-related activities," said Dr. Matthew Horsfield, assistant professor of Family and Community Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and medical director of Baylor Family Medicine.
Physician assistants are now offering sports physical exams with same day appointments at Baylor's Quick Care Clinic on Kirby Drive. Horsfield said the proper paperwork required by the school or organization must be brought to the sports physical appointment.
If you're looking to vaccinate your child or need refills for medications, Baylor Family Medicine also offers general physicals or well-child examinations in the regular clinic.
"We additionally recommend an annual wellness visit in our clinic where vaccines, medications and other health concerns can be further discussed in detail," Horsfield said.
Appointments for sports/camp physicals at Baylor's Quick Care Clinic can be made by calling 713-798-7700. The cost is $35. Insurance will not be billed for sports/camp related physicals as they are not a substitute for a well-child exam.
