When it comes to good health, medical students at Baylor College of Medicine can talk the talk, but they also want to bring the Houston community together to walk the walk at the 5th annual Baylor College of Medicine Wellness 5K Race and Walk.
The event will take place Saturday, Oct. 22, at 8:15 a.m. The race will start at Baylor’s main campus, located at One Baylor Plaza, and take a scenic route along Brays Bayou and through the Texas Medical Center. The race course has been officially certified by USA Track & Field Association. A kids’ 1k race will take place at 8 a.m.
Students hope to join with the community to focus on health as a concept that extends beyond the clinic to include social, psychological and environmental elements. The student-run event raises funds for student wellness initiatives.
Post-race activities will take place at the TMC Commons and will include an awards ceremony with yoga, music and prizes. Wellness-promoting vendors and others will be present during and after the race outside the TMC Commons. A T-shirt is included with each adult registration, and the first 50 kids get a free 1K T-shirt.
