The 2016 Stiletto Strut event, sponsored by Neiman Marcus, raised more than $60,000 to support breast cancer research being conducted at Baylor College of Medicine’s Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center, part of the NCI-designated Dan L Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The event, chaired by Ellen Elam, welcomed more than 125 women to shop, sip champagne and strut their most stylish stilettos around the Galleria, all for a good cause.
The annual Stiletto Strut is organized largely by the Advisory Council for the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center, a group of women who are dedicated to raising funds and awareness in the Houston community.
Guests enjoyed champagne, light bites, raffle prizes, a live auction of an original art piece by Taft McWhorter and a sneak peek of the season’s latest fashions. In addition to the festivities, Dr. Matthew Ellis, McNair scholar and director of the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center, delivered a few words and presented Dr. Emily Sedgwick with the C. Kent Osborne, M.D. Award for Medical Excellence.
“Being honored with the C. Kent Osborne Award for Medical Excellence is truly an honor,” said Sedgwick, associate professor of radiology at Baylor. “It was wonderful to share the award with breast imaging team members from the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center and from the Smith Clinic at Harris Health System. Providing high-quality and compassionate care in our same day work-up and breast biopsy program is a team effort.”
The event’s emcee, Jan Carson, shared the stories of three breast cancer survivors who also were in attendance as guests of honor.
