Baylor College of Medicine in Houston has signed a research agreement with Advanced Bio/Chem, Inc. to search for biomarkers for neurodegenerative disease.

The principal investigator for the project is Stanley Appel, MD, chair of the Department of Neurology at Baylor. Appel, a leader in neuromuscular and neurodegenerative disease research, will be working with Dr. Ira Goldknopf, chief scientific officer and Advanced Bio/Chems lead investigator.

Appel is director of the MDA/ALS Center, the Jerry Lewis Neuromuscular Disease Research Center, and a National Institute of Aging Alzheimers Disease Research Center at Baylor. His research exploring the role of the immune system and inflammation in neurological disorders is helping create a better understanding of ALS and other neurological diseases.
