Through Harris Health’s partnership with Department of Molecular and Human Genetics, Houstonians gain access to unparalleled clinical treatment and counseling and a full range of diagnostic testing from one of the world’s leading genetics departments. Harris Health System patients have access to Baylor’s genetic services at the Adult Genetics Clinic at Smith Clinic and Prenatal Genetics Clinic at Ben Taub Hospital.

Adult Genetics Clinic at Smith Clinic


Patients who are 18 years or older, who have a known diagnosis of genetic disease or need evaluation for genetic diagnosis of adult-onset can be seen at the adult genetics clinic located at the Smith Clinic. The clinic physicians will see patients with conditions such as Marfan syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, neurofibromatosis, familial cancer syndromes such as hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, Lynch syndrome, as well as, chromosomal conditions such as Turner syndrome, Klinefelter syndrome, Williams syndrome, etc. Detailed family history is taken along with a regular medical exam which includes an interview as well as a physical exam. Genetic testing is done when appropriate and patients and families are counseled in depth.

Prenatal Genetics Clinic at Ben Taub Hospital


The Ben Taub Hospital Prenatal Genetics Clinic provides genetic counseling to women who are pregnant or planning to get pregnant. Our board-certified genetic counselors can discuss your personal or family medical history concerns, genetic screening/testing results and/or ultrasound results to help you better understand the risks to a current or future pregnancy. They can also discuss genetic screening or testing options that may be available to you.
