Upper Extremity Frailty Assessment Tool (H-38383)

Alterations in body motion, especially upper and lower extremity kinematics, have been observed extensively in elders and patient populations. Alterations in lower extremity kinematics can result in impaired gait and balance quality, which can be objectively assessed in patients with a variety of diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and diabetic neuropathy. Although lower extremity kinematics provides a strong objective assessment, it limits the measurement for only those people with the ability of performing gait and balance tests, while traumatic patients or frail elderly population might be unqualified for these measurement procedures. As such, in addition to lower extremity assessment, measuring upper extremity kinematics is crucial for evaluating patients’ conditions in order to: 1) recognize physical declines in advance levels to prevent disability and 2) facilitate intervention procedures both in diagnosis and evaluation stages.
