Male Infertility Treatment

Treatment options for male infertility can be organized generally into medical and surgical approaches.

Medical Therapy

Medical therapy may include hormonal treatment to improve sperm quality and quantity.

Antioxidants (vitamins E and C) are used primarily to treat molecules called reactive oxygen species. They possess an extra electron which is very easily passed to other molecules and in excessively high levels can cause significant damage to sperm and other genital tract cells.

Surgical Therapy

Depending on the results of the physical examination and the laboratory tests, one of several surgical procedures may be suggested. Among them are varicocele ligation, transurethral resection of the ejaculatory duct, microsurgical reversal of vasal or epididymal obstruction, or surgical procurement of sperm.

Assisted reproductive techniques include several special methods used to help couples achieve a pregnancy. They include intrauterine insemination, in vitro fertilization, and intracytoplasmic sperm injection).
